Swallowing Socks ?????

I have a dog about a year old and she loves to swallow things whole yep she does not even chew them... :)
My vet told me to start giving her frozen veggies to chew on to distract her but she eats those in 5 seconds we call her the vacuum at home she can eat anything in less than a min.
Any ideas?

Swallowing foreign objects is a pain for dog owners and a serious health threat for dogs as well. Obstruction result in some very invasive type surgery and in worst cases death for the animal. I'm not trying to sound grim. How old is your dog and what breed. I always ask these same questions because puppies in particular are bad about this and some breeds are worse than others when it comes to this. My American Bulldog has to be watched closely and at times I've had to tether him to me to prevent this behavior. Being a puppy of 7 months he is never out of my sight for more than a few seconds at most and if I can't have my eyes on him every waking moment I crate him. Crates are the best invention for dogs in the last century IMO. If it's a food swallowing issue and hes gulps food there are a couple of ways to deal with this. You can buy special feeding bowls that have "protrusions" that make them work a bit more to get the food from the bowl and I know of people that put large clean rocks in the bowl forcing the dog to nibble a bit more to get the food. If it's foreign objects you can never do enough to puppy proof the home and provide proper toys for them to play with. I would love to know how this all plays out for you. Keep us posted.

I guess if I would have been paying a little closer attention I would have seen your dog is a year and a Pit Bull. Bully breeds are voracious chewers and are a little slower to mature. He's still a puppy for the most part. Bullys are definitely wired a little different than other breeds and take a quite of bit more patience in working with. I love my bully!!!

You may try spraying the items she trys to eat, with a product called bitter apple, dogs hate it and it wont hurt them, sold at pets mart or pet co.
I also think that a crate is great for dogs with any issues, it gives then a safe place that belongs only to them.
Please watch ceasar milan aka the dog wisperer.
My dogs were out of hand and just little tips from watching the show i can open the door without being ran down thay sit and wait for food, you will be shocked what 5 minutes a day can do. Just remember dogs only do what we let them do .Dogs are very smart, smarter than people give them credit for, patience pays off. Trust me i now have 300lbs of dog siting and waiting for me now.

Beat them i know you don't like to hurt your animals cause i don't but they have to learn some how so make it now. show them the sock and either hit them with it or smack them in the face no to hard just to startle them and see if that works it takes time and patience but just give it a try:)

Wow! Please tell me that you're kidding! "Beat them?!" A dog doesn't understand hitting, and if anything, hitting will only create more problems... psychological problems no less. I'm pretty sure there are other ways to deal with the situation. How about using a spray bottle filled with H2O should you catch your pup in the act? How about using your voice (i.e. Ah! Ah! Ah!) in a loud tone?

I have a APBT/Staffie mix who is a year old. She is a voracious chewer no doubt, but I've never struck my dog for chewing, or for any other reason. My dog trusts me, adores me and the feeling is mutual. Therefore, if I have to raise my voice to correct her behavior, she knows that I mean business.

I realize the original post is over a year old, and since that time I hope you've found a solution.
